March Artist Date Invitations

I had so much joy creating February’s Artist Date invitations. Seeing how small, intentional acts of creativity can spark delight and reflection reminded me why I started this practice. I have been looking forward to sharing March’s invitations with you and inviting you to step gently into the season alongside me.
March always feels like the in between. Not quite winter. Not fully spring. The light lingers a little longer and the air carries a quiet promise of change.
If you are new to this practice, you might be wondering why it matters. You can read how Artist Dates changed my business and my life here. I talk about how I actually made space in my schedule and how it has shifted me as a creative.
This month’s Artist Dates are about transition. About noticing what is gently shifting around you and within you. Spring does not arrive all at once. It unfolds slowly, and we are allowed to unfold slowly too.
There is no order here. No pressure to complete them all. Let yourself choose what calls to you.

1. Visit a Greenhouse or Botanical Garden
Step into a greenhouse or botanical garden and bring your art supplies with you. Crayons, watercolour paints, a sketchbook, your camera, or whatever creative modality feels natural.
Walk slowly. Notice how the light filters through the glass. Study the curve of a leaf, the layers of petals, the contrast between new growth and soil. Capture what genuinely inspires you rather than what looks impressive.
Early spring is subtle. It rewards attention. Let yourself respond creatively to what you see.

2. Take Yourself on a Date
Create a beautiful experience just for you. Prepare a special meal, set the table thoughtfully, light a candle, and enjoy the moment. You might savour a three-course dinner while watching your favourite show, have a candle-lit yoga session with tea, read a book in the bathtub, or even enjoy a puzzle night with a glass of wine.
Afterwards, sit with your journal.
Journal prompts:
What does it feel like to give myself this level of care?
Where in my life am I craving more intention?
What does slowing down teach me about myself?
What parts of me feel ready to bloom this season?
Let this be an act of devotion to yourself and a celebration of the small joys in your life.

3. Create a Spring Mood Board
Gather images, colours, textures, and words that represent how you want this season to feel. Flip through magazines, print photos, use scraps of fabric, dried flowers, paint swatches, or create something digitally. Focus on feeling rather than perfection.
Invite friends to join you and make an evening of it. Share ideas, sip tea or wine, and enjoy the creative energy together. Ask each other questions like:
What colours feel like renewal to me?
What textures feel light and fresh?
What energy do I want this season to carry?
What am I calling in over the next few months?
Let your mood board become a visual reflection of where you are headed. Place it somewhere you can return to often.

4. Spring Cleaning as Creative Ritual
If you are like me, with two small children, keeping a perfectly tidy home at all times can feel impossible. Even if you share your home with roommates or have a shared workspace, you can choose one small space that is just yours. A shelf, a table, or a corner where you can create a little sanctuary.
Clear it with intention. Remove what feels heavy or distracting. Add something that brings you joy, such as a small vase of flowers or a meaningful object. Nurture this space as a piece of calm, a corner you can control, a little refuge for your creativity and presence.
Clearing space externally often creates space internally. Let this act reflect what you are ready to release and what you are inviting in.

5. Try a New Creative Medium
Choose something you have never tried before. Lately, I have been playing around with watercolour pastels. Using this medium feels whimsical and almost childlike. It brings me so much joy to explore the colours, the textures, and the freedom of not worrying about perfection.
You might choose air dry clay, collage, pressed flowers, poetry, or any creative medium that feels new to you. Allow yourself to be a beginner. There is freedom in not knowing. This is about curiosity, play, and discovering what delights you.
Growth begins with experimentation.
March Reflection Prompts
At any point during the month:
What feels like it is waking up in me right now?
What am I ready to let go of as the season shifts?
How do I want to feel by the end of March?
What surprised me during these Artist Dates?
What do I want to carry into April?
March is not about rushing into something new. It is about tending gently to what is already beginning.
Choose one. Choose all. Return to the ones that feel nourishing. Let this month unfold in the same way spring does. Slowly. Naturally. In your own time.
